Summary

The Research Technician will provide technical and operational support for a dynamic biomedical research laboratory focused on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease. This position is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory procedures, maintaining laboratory operations, collecting and analyzing experimental data, and ensuring compliance with institutional safety and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with the principal investigator, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and other laboratory personnel to support ongoing research projects while contributing to a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment. This position offers the opportunity to develop technical expertise, assume increasing levels of responsibility, and contribute to high impact biomedical research within a collaborative academic environment.

Job Duties

  • Conduct laboratory research. 
  • Perform primary neonatal rat and adult mouse cardiomyocyte isolations and culture to support ongoing cardiovascular research studies. 
  • Assist with molecular and cellular biology experiments, prepare and aliquot commonly used laboratory reagents and solutions, and learn additional research techniques including adenoviral and adeno associated viral (AAV) vector production. 
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up to date laboratory notebooks, collect and organize experimental data, and assist with data analysis and documentation.
  • Support animal colony management and surgical studies.
  • Assist with the breeding, maintenance, and genotyping of transgenic mouse colonies. 
  • Maintain accurate electronic records of breeding, genotyping, and colony management using laboratory databases and spreadsheets. 
  • Assist with rodent surgical procedures, perioperative animal care, and tissue collection in accordance with approved institutional animal care protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory operations.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, buffers, media, and commonly used stock solutions. 
  • Maintain laboratory equipment through routine cleaning, calibration, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting. 
  • Perform routine testing and documentation of laboratory safety equipment to ensure compliance with institutional safety requirements. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient laboratory environment to support daily research activities.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • No prior research experience is required; training will be provided.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working with laboratory animals and willing to learn animal handling, surgical, and husbandry procedures.
