Summary

Our lab studies how genetic changes in the immune system cause primary immunodeficiencies, also known as inborn errors of immunity. Based at Texas Children's Hospital, one of the world’s largest centers caring for these patients, we work to understand how specific mutations lead to disease and how that knowledge can improve diagnosis and treatment. We are a young and growing lab seeking a motivated Research Technician I who seeking to learn patient sample processing, DNA and RNA isolation, and fundamental molecular biology techniques. The position also offers strong mentorship and opportunities to advance to develop more advanced technical skills over time.

Job Duties

• Handling and processing patient specimens
• Isolating DNA and RNA
• Processing plasma and serum
• Maintaining cell cultures
• Performing cDNA synthesis
• Running PCR
• Performing gel electrophoresis
• Organizing and maintaining sample inventories
• Tracking specimen allocation and storage
• Supporting general laboratory management and organization
• Recording and documenting results of research experiments 
• Attending regular lab meetings
• Taking ownership of specific research projects
• Contributing to scientific presentations and manuscripts
• Receiving authorship when contributions meet authorship criteria
• Attending scientific meetings when appropriate
• Developing additional skills through mentorship, including flow cytometry, advanced molecular biology techniques, and bioinformatics analysis
• Perform other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• One year of relevant experience.
