Job Title:  Pathologists' Assistant-The Woodlands
Division:  Pathology Clinical Operations
Work Arrangement:  Onsite only
Location:  The Woodlands, TX
Salary Range:  $124,453 to $146,415
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The qualified candidate will perform the gross description and dissection of simple and complex surgical specimens.  Candidates should be able to proficiently utilize dictation and LIS systems to accurately document surgical samples. Frozen section participation and specimen triage are also key responsibilities of this position. 

 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards, knowledge of quality standards and requirements for pathology specimen dictation and photographs, and knowledge of biological specimen disposition, maintenance and storage procedures and techniques.

 

This position is located in The Woodlands, TX.

Job Duties

  • Performs gross dissection of surgical specimens, selecting appropriate tissue to be submitted for histological review.
  • Takes gross photographs and catalogs them into the computer.
  • Dictates verbal reports regarding the specimens.
  • Assists in specimen pickups and deliveries from the operative suite to the gross room.
  • Assists with organization, maintenance and storage of gross specimens following dictation.
  • Selects and submits tissue for special procedures (i.e. flow cytometry, frozen section).
  • Participates in organizing the workflow in the grossing area.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities.  Inspects equipment in the gross room and assists in the provision of adequate supplies and general cleanliness of the gross room suite.
  • Prepares quality assurance reports.
  • Works as a productive member of the pathology department team through effective communication, equitable sharing of workload, and by providing quality driven work product.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from accredited Pathologist Assistant Program or Bachelor's degree in Biological or Allied Health Sciences.
  • Six months of relevant experience if graduated from an accredited Pathology Assistant Program or with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Allied Health Sciences, two years of related experience.
  • Certified as a Pathologist’s Assistant by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP-PA).
