Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine, Sugar Land location is seeking a competent and reliable Registered Nurse II to join our multidisciplinary clinic, which includes Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Pulmonary services. This role supports our clinicians in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across a diverse range of conditions. This position will assist in the care of patients under the direction of our team of physicians. The RN II position is expected to demonstrate clinical competence when providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, managing emergencies, and acting as a patient and family advocate in order to monitor and maintain patient rights.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. Candidates must possess a proactive, team-oriented attitude.  Position should be able to perform nursing and administrative duties using the principles of team-based and patient-centered care, chronic care management models, and quality improvement.  It is the responsibility of this position to contribute to a patient centric and customer focused environment where the needs of the patients come first.

Job Duties

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and a positive patient experience.
  • Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provides professional nursing assessment of patients ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and clinic protocols across all specialty areas.
  • May ensure efficient operation of the clinic or unit by scheduling and planning for use of staff, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collaborates with specialty providers to support diagnostic and therapeutic procedures specific to gastroenterology (e.g., hemorrhoid banding), cardiology (e.g., EKG monitoring), and pulmonology (e.g., spirometry).
  • Coordinates scheduling of diagnostic tests, specialty procedures, and follow-up appointments with internal and external providers. 
  • Facilitates referrals, prior authorizations, and Letters of Medical Necessity for specialty procedures, imaging and prescriptions.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Instructs patients concerning the preparations needed for tests and surgical procedures.
  • Communicates with other health care professionals regarding orders and care of patients.
  • Provides condition-specific education and support for chronic disease management (e.g., COPD, heart failure, IBD).
  • Conducts telephone triage using section protocols to assess patient needs and direct appropriate care ensuring timely access and continuity of care. 
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for clinic staff by directing, guiding, and influencing the outcome of an individual’s performance and activity.
  • Participates in the orientation, on-boarding, and cross-training of new clinical staff.
  • Prioritizes and organizes work so that assignments are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks, and orders treatment room supplies.
  • Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements, clinic flow optimization, and patient satisfaction initiatives. 
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). 
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience related to Cardiology, Gastroenterology and/or Pulmonology.
