Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

A Staff Scientist position is available in Dr. Prasad's group. The ideal candidate will have experience working on structural and functional analysis of viral proteins. Also expected to have structural biology experience as well as in characterizing the phase separation properties of macromolecules as related to viral replication.

Job Duties

Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator:

  • Investigate the phase separation behavior of viral proteins involved in viral replication process.
  • Investigate the structural basis of protein function.
  • Study viral RNA remodeling proteins.
  • Test small molecule libraries against viral target protein using enzymatic assays in vitro.
  • Help other researcher to biophysically characterize the protein and protein-protein complexes using Analytical ultracentrifuge and Isothermal titration calorimetry.
  • Plan, direct and conduct research experiments.
  • Evaluate and analyze data.
  • Develop research techniques and perform applications required for specific research projects.
  • May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Document results of experiments and report to principal investigators.
  • Present the research in national and international conferences.
  • Help Principal Investigator in drafting the manuscript and writing grant proposal.
  • May supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Department Specific Criteria

  • Experience working on structural and functional analysis of viral protein.
  • Structural biology experience in addition to expertise in characterizing the phase separation on macromolecules like protein and nucleic acids.
  • PhD in biochemistry or structural biology.
