Salary Range:  $99,213 - $116,500
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Business Operations Manager to oversee the department's education division which includes the approximately 400 trainees in the department's residency and fellowship programs. This role includes managing program coordinators and overseeing the programs' $50M annual budget and daily operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business operations, financial management, and administration within a medical or academic setting.

Job Duties

Financial Management

  • Develop, manage, and oversee the $50M annual operating budget for residency and fellowship programs.
  • Monitor financial performance, prepare financial reports, invoicing, and ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Implement cost-control measures and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines.
  • Review and approve expenditures related to the residency and fellowship programs.
  • Oversee effort allocations related to educational activity for faculty, trainees, and staff and evaluates FTE activity to make recommendations to department leadership and program directors.

 

Business Operation

  • Streamline administrative processes to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Develop guidelines and implement best practices in program management and administration.
  • Collaborate with department leadership, faculty, residents, fellows, and other stakeholders to address program needs and concerns.
  • Functions as a liaison between the residents/fellows, program director, faculty, GME office, human resources, participating sites, and other internal department and outside agencies.

 

People Management

  • Oversee human resources for the division in partnership with DOM leadership.
  • Advise trainees, faculty, coordinators, and staff on recruitment issues.
  • Supervise and mentor program supervisors and coordinators, providing guidance and support to ensure effective program administration.
  • Develop staffing plans and define work responsibilities and prioritize tasks for the team.
  • Set performance development plans and goals for team members.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations to assess and enhance team performance.

 

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in financial management and budgeting.
  • Two years of people management.
  • Experience in medical education, fellowships, or academic administration.
