Summary

The Biostatistics and Research Data Core at the USDA/ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) is seeking to hire a full-time Senior Biostatistician. Our mission is to oversee the design and conduct of statistical activities, including data management and statistical analysis of observational and clinical trial data, grant development, and support training and educational opportunities to junior Biostatisticians, undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. The key responsibility of this position is to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams to engage in scholarly research, assist with grant submissions, methodological development, and promote rigor and reproducibility practices. This position requires experience in mathematical modeling, statistical analysis using a variety of statistical methods, contributing to projects individually and as part of a team, and assisting with conducting clinical research studies in diet, nutrition, obesity, physical activity assessment or related fields. The Senior Biostatistician will support statistical integrity and accuracy of research data, develop advanced statistical programs, effectively present results to investigators, and collaborate with team members on shared goals. 

Job Duties

  • Supports biostatistics services, ranging from brief consultation to long-term collaborations, including data management, data analysis, manuscript preparation, writing the statistical section of grants, and verification of analyses.
  • Performs intermediate to advanced statistical analysis for projects.
  • Handles intermediate modeling approaches, including but not limited to linear regression, logistic regression, generalized linear models.
  • Some working knowledge in advanced approaches including; multi-level regression, semi-parametric models, latent variable modeling, and machine learning methods.
  • Ability to use different software to address the increasing complexity of health-related data.
  • Ensures the security, statistical integrity and accuracy of research data.
  • Effectively interacts with and presents results to investigators.
  • Implements best practice recordkeeping and study documentation practices.
  • Assists with dissemination of mathematical and statistical concepts to non-statistical audiences.
  • Stays abreast of knowledge pertaining to the analytical methods needed to analyze behavioral research studies.
  • Participates in research and evaluation studies to develop methodology by refining current methods, integrating different methods, or creating novel methods.
  • Conducts literature reviews pertinent to study design or statistical concepts.
  • Comfortable working in interdisciplinary teams with other biostatisticians, staff and investigators from other disciplines.
  • Assists with creating documentation for supporting daily activities, including project inventories, meeting notes, data archiving, and standard operating procedures.
  • Contributes to team development activities including training, mentoring and technical support.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or a  related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD with at least 1 year of experience in behavioral research.
  • Background in nutrition, obesity, metabolic disease, aging research, or related health field.
  • Managing or analyzing clinical research data.
  • Able to write technical reports describing statistical methods or findings of statistical investigations, collaborates in multidisciplinary teams, promotes team science.
