Summary
This highly visible role is responsible for key deliverables related to financial reporting activities including the preparation and analysis of monthly and quarterly unaudited financial statements, annual audited financial statements and footnote disclosures, as well as certain tax filings. This position works closely with Finance and Accounting team members as well as other departments throughout the College and will assist in ensuring that accounting results are in compliance with GAAP. In this role, the candidate will take the lead in coordinating the preparation and review of footnote disclosure requirements. This position will also take an active role in assisting with researching new accounting guidelines and implementing such guidelines into Baylor College of Medicine’s accounting practices. This role will see a fairly high level of ad-hoc research and analysis. This could include deep dives into various accounting transactions as well as accounting analysis of potential deals. This role will also play a key part in identifying and implementing process improvements.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with preparing financial statements and a strong ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting.
Job Duties
- Prepares and analyzes financial statements, footnotes, and related disclosures for external reporting purposes, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepares supporting schedules for the financial statements and related notes.
- Collaborates with other Finance team members as well as others throughout the College to prepare and review support for footnote disclosures to annual audited financial statements.
- Prepares internal financial reports for executive management.
- Acts as a key liaison with external auditors for reviews and audit.
- Develops and prepares assigned tax reports, filings, and payments.
- Performs financial data analysis, as required.
- Provides tax research and analysis, as needed.
- Participates in research of technical accounting issues.
- Prepares ad-hoc requests for analysis and information, as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with SAP
- Intermediate to advance Excel experience
- Strong analytical skills
