CHRISTUS Children's, a world-class 240-bed freestanding children's hospital in San Antonio, serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community. In 2013, CHRISTUS Health finalized an agreement partnering with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to recruit, employ, and oversee physicians and advanced practice providers at CHRISTUS Children's.

Summary

The Division of Genetics seeks a full-time genetic counselor to join the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine at CHRISTUS Children's. This position has a competitive salary and full benefits package. The successful candidate will join a division that includes clinical and biochemical geneticists and nine pediatric genetic counselors. 

Job Duties

  • Provide genetic counseling primarily for pediatric patients in outpatient and inpatient settings but will also provide genetic counseling for adult patients 
  • Review, elicit, and interpret family, medical and psychosocial histories
  • Coordinate the genetic testing process with laboratory, physicians, and patients/families
  • Work closely with geneticists, nurses, dieticians, social workers and other genetic counselors to coordinate patient care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, departmental conferences, meetings, and student and resident teaching
  • Reports to Genetic Counselor Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have graduated from an ABGC accredited genetic counseling training program and be board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Genetic Counselors. Candidates should also possess excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and oral), strong organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and eagerness to work in a team setting. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
