Baylor College of Medicine and Department Summary:

The Division of Gastroenterology seeks a full-time physician to join the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine at CHRISTUS Children's. This position has a competitive salary and full benefits package. CHRISTUS Children's, a world-class 240-bed freestanding pediatrics hospital in San Antonio, serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community. In 2013, CHRISTUS Health partnered with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to recruit, employ, and oversee physicians and advanced practice providers at CHRISTUS Children's.

 

Baylor College of Medicine (bcm.edu) is a leading academic health science center renowned for excellence in education, research, clinical care, and community service. BCM is currently associated with multiple educational, healthcare, and research affiliates.

Summary

The successful candidate will join a division currently staffed with 7 clinical gastroenterologists and 2 advanced practice providers. The division has a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship program and a separate advanced endoscopy fellowship program. The division provides inpatient coverage at CHRISTUS Children's, as well as outpatient services at the hospital-based clinic and satellite locations. The division performs approximately 1500 procedures each year across the full spectrum of routine and advanced endoscopic procedures and routinely collaborates with our surgical colleagues within colorectal, pancreaticobiliary, and bariatric programs.

Job Duties

 

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Clinical responsibilities include ambulatory and inpatient care, consultative services, and performance of general GI procedures.  The candidate is expected to participate in the supervision and education of medical students, residents, and fellows in Gastroenterology. 
  • Outpatient and inpatient clinical care for children with the complete spectrum of intestinal, hepatic, pancreatic and nutritional disorders.
  • General pediatric gastrointestinal procedures (e.g., upper endoscopy and colonoscopy with related therapeutic procedures).

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.D., Ph.D. / M.D. / D.O. degree, or equivalent.
  • Completion of an ACGME approved fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology (or equivalent).
  • Licensed by the Texas Medical Board.
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Pediatrics, subspecialty certification in pediatric gastroenterology medicine (or eligible for same).
