Summary

The Pediatric Residency Training Program at Baylor College of Medicine - CHRISTUS Children's San Antonio is accepting applications for a graduating pediatric resident to serve as one of two Chief Residents during the 2025-2026 academic year to oversee its 39-resident program. The BCM-CHofSA program is entering its eleventh year as a new program.

 

Requirements for application include:

  • Must be a current PGY-3 pediatric resident in good standing with an ACGME-accredited training program.
  • Must graduate in June 2025 from an ACGME accredited residency training program and be prepared to start June 24, 2025. If accepted for the position, and if possible, we will coordinate with your current program to allow you to complete a "chief elective" rotation at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Must be American Board of Pediatrics eligible for initial certification in 2025.
  • Must have US citizenship or a J-1 Visa. No other visas will be considered.

Job Duties

  • 50% FTE appointment as an instructor in primary care pediatrics
  • Opportunity to moonlight on Pediatric ICU, Emergency Department observation unit, or Hospital Medicine services
  • Teaching/Curriculum Development
  • Organization of the academic calendar
  • Implementation of a new academic half day curriculum
  • Didactic teaching
  • Resident block schedule creation including holiday schedule
  • Resident scheduling in X+Y system (4+2+2), as well as development of schedule for clinic/longitudinal rotations (e.g., advocacy, developmental pediatrics, scholarly, and walk-in clinic)
  • Development of inpatient rotation schedules, including coordination of outside rotators
  • Organize and coordinate all absence requests
  • Attend weekly residency executive committee meetings, as well as hospital-wide committee meetings as needed
  • Provide reliable communication to both residents and faculty on resident events
  • Participation in applicant interviews and intern selection/rank list
  • Development of agenda and coordination of housestaff council meetings
  • Hosting social events for residents
  • Lead collaborative program evaluation and improvement sessions, approximately quarterly
  • Collaborative mentorship and training of rising chiefs
  • Providing moral support for trainees
  • Coordination of mental health and resident wellness initiatives
