Salary Range:  $70,618 - $80,000
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine – CHRISTUS Children’s is seeking a highly motivated professional to assist with communications that advance the mission, vision, and values of the organization, including media relations, external and internal communications, web-based and social media strategies, public relations, and community outreach opportunities for the BCM – CHRISTUS Children’s community.

Job Duties

Content Development and Writing - 50% of time

  • Writes and edits copy for internal and external audiences, ensuring messaging is clear, accurate, and tailored to a diverse population.  This includes video creation and editing. 
  • Interviews faculty and staff to develop content for news releases, press releases, feature stories, media advisories, news briefs, blog posts, and newsletters.
  • Coordinates and disseminates communiques through various media resources, including digital, print, and electronic channels.
  • Ensures all materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the organization, reviews and edits content for style, technical accuracy, completeness, and consistency of brand message and tone across all communications touch points.

Strategic Planning and Project Coordination - 20% of time 

  • Coordinates communications for projects and service rollouts that support the organization’s goals and objectives that impact the BCM – CHRISTUS Children’s community.
  • Creates, develops, and implements strategic communications plans aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Designs publications and other informational materials for various activities and initiatives.
  • Attends planning meetings to ensure communications strategies are aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Researches current communication trends that can be implemented strategically to reach the department’s goals and support the broader BCM – CHRISTUS Children’s brand.
  • Collaborates with BCM Communications to ensure alignment on messaging, content, branding, and initiative awareness. 

Digital and Social Media - 15% time

  • Develops and manages web-based and social media content strategies that advance the mission, vision, and values of BCM – CHRISTUS Children’s.
  • Creates and publishes digital content across social media platforms, websites, and other digital channels to engage target audiences.
  • Assists with the development of and ongoing updates to BCM – CHRISTUS Children’s websites, webpages, e-communications, forms, and other digital assets.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Office of Information Technology on web-based communications.
  • Monitors and analyzes social media engagement and web analytics to evaluate communications effectiveness and inform strategy.

Media Relations - 5% of time

  • Schedules media interviews and escorts media representatives on campus, serving as a liaison between the organization and media outlets.
  • Presents organizational stories and initiatives to the media and monitors media coverage to assess impact and accuracy.

Community Outreach - 5% time

  • Represents BCM – CHRISTUS Children’s at community events, health fairs, and public forums to promote organizational visibility and goodwill. 

Leadership and General Duties - 5% time

  • May provide guidance and mentorship to lower-level communications specialists.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. 
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in communications including content development, video creation, graphic design, and community outreach.
  • Healthcare industry experience.
