Job Title:  Research Technician II - Plant Biology, Nutrition, and Analytical Chemistry
Division:  Pediatrics

Salary Range:  $35,591 - $41,872
FLSA Status:  Nonexempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

We are seeking a full-time technician (40 hrs/week) to assist with maintaining populations of hydroponically grown plants, cell culture lines, and the development and execution of analytical chemistry assays (primarily liquid chromatograph and mass spectrometry). The technician will execute experiments related to our federally funded projects. The technician will help optimize extraction and analysis protocols while meticulously recording data and other observations. The technician will also be responsible for curating samples from collaborators. 

Job Duties

  • Maintains and organizes laboratory and greenhouse spaces.
  • Orders reagents, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Conducts laboratory and greenhouse research Including, but not limited to, soil based or soilless (e.g. hydroponics) plant production, making nutrient solutions, harvesting plant tissues, extracting chemicals from plant tissues, and analysis of extracts using liquid chromatography.
  • Maintains cell culture stocks (feeding, passaging, seeding, etc.) and performs bioavailability assays
  • Evaluates and refines methodologies for research projects.
  • Collects and curates data.
  • Works on data analysis subject to desire and experience of the candidate.
  • Documents and summarizes experimental outcomes.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with growing and maintaining populations of plants in a greenhouse setting.
  • Familiarity with extracting and analyzing plant-derived chemicals.
  • Experience with 3D printing and/or modeling.
  • Experience handling power tools is a plus but not required.
