Summary
The Reimer Lab (https://www.bcm.edu/research/faculty-labs/jacob-reimer-lab) studies sensory processing across different brain states and the mechanisms that control the gating and routing of information in the brain. The lab is seeking a talented technician to perform cranial window surgeries, carry out multi- photon in vivo imaging experiments, and help maintain our mouse colony. Experience with mouse surgeries or microscopy is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person. Other desirable skills include viral injections, basic programming skills, electrophysiology, or histology, and RNA-sequencing.
Job Duties
- Collects large scale neural recordings using multiphoton fluorescence imaging as well as behavioral recordings. They will be responsible for documentation of their research activites for publication and grant reporting.
- Helps maintain our colony of mice in collaboration with the Center for Comparitive Medicine.
- Prepares animals for recording that includes cranial window surgery and/or viral vector injections into mouse cortex.
- Helps set up and maintains behavioral apparatus and data acquisition equipment.
- Aids in training the less experienced lab members for surgery, recording, and best experimental practices.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with mouse surgeries or microscopy is desired, but the department is willing to train.
- Skills set that include viral injections, basic programming skills, electrophysiology, or histology, and RNA-sequencing is a plus.
