Summary
Highly productive research laboratory located at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine seeking a Research Technician to work in bacterial antimicrobial resistance and epidemiology. The laboratory focus is on the molecular epidemiology and antibiotic resistance of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, S. pyogenes, and Haemophilus influenzae as well as other human pathogens. A wide variety of techniques are used that includes basic microbiologic techniques (e.g. culture and sub-culture of bacteria, aseptic technique, etc.), general molecular biology (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis), and basic antimicrobial susceptibility testing (e.g. broth dilution, E-test and Kirby-Bauer).
Research Technician I position be motivated, highly professional and have some experience with many of the procedures and techniques listed in the job description. Occasional weekend hours may be required. The technician be able to work well in a team setting and be highly responsible. Recent college graduates who intend to apply to graduate school or medical school but are desiring more research experience in the field (while supporting the research mission) are encouraged to apply.
Job Duties
- Works with a team to conduct and support academic microbiologic research.
- Performs bacterial culture, PCR, qPCR, PFGE, data entry and basic analysis, and quality control (e.g., checking and keeping a log of freezer temperatures) plus antibiotic susceptibility testing under the supervision of the PI as well as other senior lab personnel.
- Performs duties that include ordering laboratory supplies as needed, entering data into a study database, assisting in the preparation of laboratory reports.
- Works with human pathogens and appropriate safety training will be provided.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.

- Recent college graduates.
