Summary
The Scott Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX is seeking a Research Coordinator II. We are seeking an organized and detailed lab professional as we grow the Bladder Cancer Research Center team. The coordinator plays a vital role for the research program. This position aids in the day-to-day operations of the tissue bank and helps to provide a safe-secure environment for all stored specimens. This individual is responsible for collecting, processing, maintaining the storage, and transport of human tissues to and from Baylor College of Medicine facilities and hospitals.
The primary purpose of this position is to carry out laboratory research projects in the laboratory of the Bladder Cancer Center, understanding the functions of IHC, collection of tumor, urine, and blood samples for germ line analysis and possible timeline/follow-up studies.
This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds for short periods and to stand for extended periods of time. This position requires you to walk between buildings and facilities within the medical center as per job responsibilities.
Job Duties
- Autonomously maintain and coordinate high quality tissue inventory/management.
- Processing and coordinating shipments of tissue(s).
- Liaison between BCM, Human Tissue Acquisition and Pathology Core (HTAP), and shipping sites.
- Data Gathering, analyzing records and evaluating data following methods requested.
- Operate the tissue bar code scanner systems for inventory purposes and pathology analysis, and to troubleshoot minor problems.
- Maintain repository-specific equipment and monitoring systems.
- Work in a collaborative relationship with the Project Manager, HTAP, and other team members and departments.
- Will be responsible for following specimen witnessing protocols to maintain the highest quality and lab standards.
- Data entry requirements include but are not limited to working with and maintaining the digital inventory database, open specimen.
- Establishes a system for tracking, processing, and monitoring the research program operations and protocols that are utilizing the services of the tumor bank.
- Minor tank maintenance and responsibilities for monitoring temperatures and nitrogen levels.
- Perform QA and QC procedures.
- Data entry into EDC systems . Query management and resolution as per sponsor's deadlines. Update EDC queries upon reconciling the data from source documents.
- Ability to move in between the buildings/Facilities (in the medical center) as per PI's requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's in science or biomedical engineering, something in basic science.
- Superior organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as a part of a team.
- Understanding of medical terminology and standard clinical procedures and protocols.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for a short period and capable of standing for extended periods of time.
- Other languages are an asset.
