Summary

Baylor College of Medicine, in partnership with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital, is seeking a Research Coordinator I to support pediatric orthopedic research studies from planning through data collection, analysis, and dissemination. This role involves coordinating day-to-day study activities, including patient recruitment, screening, enrollment, and consent processes, while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and study protocols.

 

The Research Coordinator I will also manage research data and documentation, assist with clinical procedures, maintain study supplies, and support data reporting and analysis.

 

This position offers hands-on experience in a collaborative clinical and research environment, working closely with pediatric orthopedic surgeons, physicians, and researchers at Texas Children’s Hospital. It provides an opportunity to contribute to both clinical and basic science research while gaining valuable exposure to the field of pediatric orthopedics.

 

RB documentation and regulatory support are key components of this role. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with manuscript and presentation preparation, conducting literature reviews, updating research databases, and supporting clinical documentation. Tasks may involve writing and editing materials, creating tables and figures, assisting with basic medical illustrations, performing or supporting statistical analysis, and preparing content for publications and presentations.

 

The Research Coordinator I will also have the opportunity to work independently on projects aligned with their interests or on institutionally approved studies. This role encourages collaboration with a diverse group of departmental faculty, each with distinct areas of expertise. Areas of focus within the department include spine disorders, sports injuries, cerebral palsy, musculoskeletal tumors, foot and ankle conditions, hip disorders, limb deficiency, and thoracic insufficiency.

Job Duties

Patient Recruitment, Screening & Enrollment (25%) 

  • Assist with identifying, recruiting, screening, enrolling, and obtaining consent from study participants while ensuring adherence to study protocols and regulatory requirements. 

 

Clinical & Research Study Coordination (20%) 

  • Coordinate daily study activities, support clinical procedures, and ensure smooth execution of research protocols in collaboration with faculty and clinical teams. 

 

Data Collection, Management & Reporting (25%) 

  • Collect, enter, and manage research data; maintain accurate records; and assist with data analysis and reporting for study outcomes. 

 

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation (15%) 

  • Maintain study documentation, ensure compliance with IRB and regulatory standards, and support ongoing audit readiness. 

 

Patient & Study Support Activities (10%) 

  • Assist with patient education, communication, and coordination of study visits and procedures. 

 

Research Operations & Supplies Management (5%)

  • Maintain study supplies, materials, and general research support needs to ensure smooth study operations.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current medical student or recent graduate with an interest in pediatric orthopedics and a career goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
  • Prior research experience or demonstrated interest in research.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff and research participants.
  • Participate in clinical and/or basic research projects over a 12-month period, contributing to peer-reviewed presentations and/or publications.
