Summary
The Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, is seeking a Research Coordinator I to manage day-to-day activities of hepatology-focused research conducted within the Harris Health System. This role involves coordinating daily operations across both observational and international clinical trials (including Phase II and III studies) evaluating therapies for liver disease.
The candidate will collaborate with an experienced clinical researcher and engage directly with study participants—guiding them through screening, enrollment, and monitoring for adherence to protocol requirements.
This position is well-suited for candidates who are self-directed, enthusiastic about clinical research, and open to being trained in tasks they may not have performed previously. Spanish fluency is strongly preferred and highly beneficial. This is an on-site, part-time position with potential for growth over time. Candidates must be available to work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Job Duties
- Interviews, screens, and recruits patients for research studies focused on chronic liver diseases. Educates participants about study processes and procedures, ensuring informed consent is obtained in accordance with protocol guidelines.
- Collects patient information through electronic medical record review, surveys, interviews, and direct measurements such as vital signs, anthropometrics, EKGs, and Fibroscan. Processes documentation and enters both qualitative and quantitative data into secure databases.
- Collects, processes, ships, and maintains paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens per study protocol. May perform venipuncture and EKGs/ECGs following appropriate training and certification.
- Maintains accurate records and regulatory documentation for all assigned research studies.
- Coordinates and schedules participant procedures, including labs, imaging, and site-specific tests. Ensures participants complete all required study visits.
- Retrieves, records, and distributes test results in a timely manner.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a science field. No experience required with preferred degree.
- Spanish language fluency.
- Familiarity with excel, statistical software.
