Job Title:  Research Associate

Location:  Houston, TX
Salary Range:  $65,000 - $72,500
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Summary

The position is created to lead projects funded by NIH, particularly on investigating the role of glial cells (astrocytes and microglia) and immunometabolic processes during aging and in Alzheimer's disease. This requires the creation of mouse models and primary cell cultures with perturbation of these pathways, and perform molecular, biochemical, cell biological, and functional analyses.

Job Duties

  • Lead independent research projects.
  • Develop and characterize mouse and cell models of Alzheimer's disease and investigate the key processes during disease progression.
  • Utilize the following techniques:qPCR, transfection, infection, Western blotting, immunostaining, flow cytometry, and single-cell sequencing and associated bioinformatics analysis.
  • Train lab personnel and collaborate with other investigators. 
  • Develop presentations and present at lab meetings and local and national conferences.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD
  • Experience with mouse models and Alzheimer's disease
