Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

A Research Assistant II position is available in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The position will be responsible for managing animal colonies and experiments, conducting laboratory experiments including Western blot, RT-qPCR, microscopy, cryosection etc., per the principal investigator's instructions and guidance. This position will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and supply inventory.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates research operations in the lab for the timely completion of projects, and initiation of new projects.  
  • Monitors daily research operations in the lab.
  • Plans, directs, and conducts research experiments, including designing breeding scheme and genotyping protocols for transgenic experimental animals in coordination with principal investigators and scheduling and supervising animal breeding, experimental treatments, and tissue harvest.
  • Assists principal investigators in analyzing experimental data for preparation of manuscripts, presentations in national and international meetings, and grant applications. 
  • Utilizes bioinformatic skills to analyze high throughput data for detailed understanding of the complex genetic associations with the disease processes.
  • Monitors consumables and common reagents in the lab to ensure constant supply of stock. 
  • Negotiates effectively with the vendors for effective pricing on materials, consumables and laboratory reagents and equipment.
  • Monitors service requirements of existing lab equipment.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • Contacts experimental animal providers and order transgenic experimental animals for various projects. 
  • Trains and orients less experienced research staff and may assign activities to less experienced research staff.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field. 
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
