Job Title:  Research Accountant
Division:  Finance
Work Arrangement:  Remote within Texas
Location:  Remote within Texas
Salary Range:  $63,052 - $85,305
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Performs intermediate accounting duties for Sponsored Projects Finance (SPF), including, reporting, billing, collections, account close-out, and maintaining master grant data.  Ensures that all transactions are made in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, and BCM guidelines.

 

Will consider highly qualified candidates to work remotely within the state of Texas.  Will be required to attend work related meetings in Houston occasionally, travel for these meetings will be at the employee’s expense.

Job Duties

  • Prepares billings to external sponsors for sponsored agreements in accordance with the sponsor’s requirements.
  • Works with external sponsors to resolve any collection issues.
  • Maintains grant master data elements in BCM’s financial system.
  • Prepares financial reports according to sponsor requirements and in accordance with BCM policies.
  • Works collaboratively with department research administrators to accomplish financial grant close-out.
  • Reviews entries, verifies amounts and compares balances, and interpret trends or deviations from expected results.
  • Maintains complete and accurate files, including supporting documentation, for all reports, billings, journal entries and analysis.
  • Completes audit requests from both internal & external auditors.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining financial records.
  • Ensures that all transactions are made in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, and Baylor College of Medicine guidelines.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a research academic setting or comparable environment.

Department Specific Criteria

  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Workday, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations governing sponsored research, particularly Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with financial systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
