Summary
Reporting to the Director of Research Accounting and Compliance, this position is a key member of the Sponsored Projects Finance (SPF) management team, responsible for monitoring the quality of grant master data, timely transaction processing, and timely and accurate sponsored account close-out. Ensures appropriate GAAP basis accounting for sponsored agreements.
Will consider highly qualified candidates to work remotely within the state of Texas. Will be required to attend work related meetings in Houston occasionally, travel for these meetings will be at the employee’s expense.
Job Duties
- Ensures grants master data is maintained to support accurate reporting, decision making, efficiency, and compliance.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on the reporting of grants data and the functionality of the grants module in the financial accounting system.
- Serves as a liaison between SPF, department research administrators and other central processing areas to assure the appropriate controls and timely processing of transaction against sponsored programs.
- Oversees the reconciliation of accounts for the appropriate representation of sponsored revenues, expenses, liabilities, and receivables related to grants accounting in BCM’s GAAP basis financial statements.
- Writes, maintains and communicates policies and procedures related to post-award accounting.
- Develops, generates, and manages timely accounting and financial reports.
- Generates various analyses and financial reports for management.
- Ensures accounting transactions and reports are conducted in accordance with accounting standards and BCM policies.
- Supervises research accounting staff.
- Stays abreast of current trends related to research administration.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
- Five years of experience in research administration, sponsored programs or grants accounting that includes at least three years of people management experience.
Department Specific Requirements
- Familiarity with ERP systems and other grants management platforms.
- Familiarity with federal regulations (Uniform Guidance, NIH Grants Policy, etc.).
- Advanced ability to use technology tools, such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, etc., to manipulate large data sets to gain insights, perform reconciliations, and monitor data quality.
- Ability to clearly communicate financial information.
- Ability to interpret, communicate and apply sponsor regulations and award terms and conditions.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment while making decisions.
- Ability to work collegially with individuals within BCM to accomplish the common goal of efficient and compliant grants administration.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
