Summary
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse. This position will assist during office-based surgical procedures and will be expected to administer conscious sedation medications. Position is expected to perform duties related to assisting in surgical procedures in an office-based setting and should be comfortable with intubation and maintaining airways. Position will assist in Center for Ambulatory Surgical Therapeutics (CfAST) procedures. The procedures include, but are not limited to: Arterial and vein procedures, hand and feet procedures, thyroid ablations, and other minor procedures.
Job Duties
- Models the Mission, Vision, Values, Code of Ethics and Standards of Excellence of Baylor Medicine.
- Utilizes acquired knowledge and skills related to pre-procedural, peri-procedural and post procedural equipment and protocols to provide safe, individualized patient care.
- Ensures that all labs are current and updated within Epic EMR.
- Administers IV, must have the ability to start peripheral IV in pre-procedure patient.
- Admits patients, review histories, performs physical and ASA assessment.
- Obtains vital signs, and blood sugar reading if health history indicates.
- Prepares patient and equipment for the procedure as directed by the type of procedure and the direction of the physician.
- Administers conscious sedation and monitors patient during procedure.
- Completes and records documentation appropriately and thoroughly.
- Circulates during procedures.
- Learns how to scrub cases.
- Observes infection control procedures to minimize the risk of cross-contamination between patients and staff. Practices universal precautions at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment, instruments, and procedure rooms to prevent cross-contamination.
- Maintains confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN).
- Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing procedural and recovery areas with surgical support experience.
- Hospital Cath Lab experience.
- Experience assisting in hand procedures.
- Experience in Moderate Sedation.
