Summary

The Center for Drug Discovery (https://www.bcm.edu/research/centers/drug-discovery) is a strategic research center established at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas. The mission of the Center for Drug Discovery is to establish novel discovery technologies that enable rapid and cost-effective drug discovery within the academic community. The Postdoctoral Associate is seeking highly skilled and motivated postdocs with expertise in molecular biology and/or genetics to join the Center for Drug Discovery.

Dr. Matzuk's laboratory at BCM centers on a platform known as DNA-Encoded Chemistry Technology (DEC-Tec) to generate biologically active small molecules. This Postdoc will develop endometriosis therapeutics targeting disease-associated kinases using DEC-Tec.

This Postdoctoral Associate position will require a person who can work independently and consult the literature to guide scientific efforts.

Job Duties

  • Participates in early stage drug discovery efforts in collaboration with biological and chemical scientists throughout the academic community, with a goal of bringing new treatments to patients with unmet medical needs.
  • Contributes to multidisciplinary lead-finding project teams by engaging in the following activities: production, purification, and/or testing of recombinant proteins.
  • Screens DNA-encoded chemical libraries.
  • Evaluates compounds for efficacy in vitro (biochemical and cell-based assays) and in vivo.
  • Works on validation of targets using mouse genetics and/or generation of DNA vectors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.
