Summary

Postdoctoral Associates are trainees working in an apprenticeship capacity in preparation for a career as a scientific professional. The person hired for this position will oversee an exciting project which recently received R01 funding. The project will use mice to investigate a novel relationship between serotonergic signaling and retinal function, particularly in the context of glaucoma and retinal ganglion cell biology.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs, and conducts specialized and advanced vision research experiments. Prior experience in vision research is preferred. •
  • Evaluates and analyzes data. Prior experience with general statistical methods and statistical software (eg. Prism) is preferred.
  • Breeds and maintains mice for experimental purposes. Prior experience with mouse colony management and breeding is preferred.
  • Supervises research staff. Prior experience mentoring students or staff is preferred.
  • Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. Prior presentation and publication history is expected.
  • Maintains laboratory operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a Ph.D. in life sciences and be motivated to perform high-quality research.
  • Experience with vision science, molecular/cellular biology, genetics, physiology, or biochemistry is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the following areas is strongly preferred: histopathology, advanced in vivo imaging in animal models, transcriptome profiling, and drug delivery.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
