Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Innovative Design and Engineering Applications (IDEA) lab,  Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College Medicine,  is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate-Specialist with an electrical/mechanical/biomedical engineering background to join our research team. The postdoctoral associate will support the electrical and electronic efforts to design, develop and test electrical systems for an implantable left ventricular assist device to treat heart failure patient. A broad understanding of the technical fields of electrical and electronic design is essential for this role. Postdoctoral Associate-Specialist semi-independently plan and execute experiments, and engage in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, participate in grant submissions, and participate in writing manuscripts.

Job Duties

  • Supports development and manufacturing of the electronic and electrical subsystems including motor, magnetic bearing and motor controller.
  • Supports digital and analog electronic device development, that includes:
    • Digital and analog circuit design.
    • Low voltage circuit design, printed circuit board (PCB) layout.
    • Motor control and physiological flow parameters.
    • Microprocessor-based designs for embedded applications.
  • Prepares design documents, electrical schematics/drawings; technical files, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), test strategies, test/verification procedures.
  • Uses of laboratory tools that includes oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and related equipment to diagnose and debug erroneous behaviors.
  • Works with vendors and contractors for prototype manufacturing, PCB fabrication, and product assembly.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Computational Sciences, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or related disciplines. May also include Ph.D. in Biology or Biomedical Sciences in combination with an M.S. or extensive multidisciplinary experience in one of the above quantitative fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with engineering software tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, SolidWorks, and 3D printing.
