Salary Range:  $62,232 - $70,000
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) has a Postdoctoral Associate position available in the laboratory of Dr. Erik Wright, which recently joined the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology (MVM). As part of the Fundamentals in Bioinformatics (FunInBio) program, the Postdoctoral Associate will develop and present innovative bioinformatics educational materials to postdoctoral scientists and early career faculty in biological fields. The FunInBio curriculum surrounds a community science project about the environmental component of antibiotic resistance. This position provides an exceptional opportunity to hone teaching skills, master bioinformatics, and benefit the scientific community.

Job Duties

  • Develops and conducts a curriculum tailored to training biologists in bioinformatics.
  • Participates in iterative content revision based on participant feedback.
  • Hones teaching through in-person cohort sessions, at the Texas Medical Center or in the regional area.
  • Creates compelling online documentation for teaching bioinformatics..
  • Prepares survey reports, summaries, lesson plans, and perform quantitative analyses of outcomes.
  • Contributes to preparation of scientific articles reporting program findings, and present results at conferences such as ISMB (Education/Outreach tracks).
  • Maintains high level professional expertise through familiarity with the current scientific literature.
  • Interacts with facilitators in related programs, such as the Bioconductor project, EvolvingSTEM, or SEA-PHAGES.
  • Performs additional duties to support the FunInBio program and lab.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedical engineering, genomics, genetics, biotechnology, evolution, ecology, systems biology, epidemiology, biomedicine, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching as an instructor or teaching assistant.
  • Strong interest in teaching and adult pedagogy is a plus.
  • Demonstratable programming abilities are desired.
