Summary
The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas is seeking a full time Physician's Assistant for a busy outpatient service with Baylor Medicine. The ideal candidate should have experience in the evaluation and treatment of ENT disorders. However, candidates new to ENT are also encouraged to apply as the skills necessary to succeed in this position will be gained through instruction and practice. The successful candidate will work within a growing multidisciplinary team of H&N surgeons, Otologists, Rhinologists, Laryngologists, and residents.
Job Duties
- Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols
- established with the supervising physician.
- Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
- Follow up on diagnostics and other studies ordered; communicate these findings with patients and other relevant providers to ensure an appropriate care plan is in place.
- Perform flexible laryngoscopy and rigid nasal endoscopy on patients as indicated (instruction on mastering this skill to be provided by supervising physicians).
- Perform basic clinic procedure: cerumen debridement, microscopic ear examination, skin biopsy, oral cavity biopsy, etc.
- Assist with maintenance of a head and neck cancer registry to ensure timely and appropriate care of head and neck cancer patients in the practice.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Required:
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.
Certification/Licenses/Registration:
- Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Experience Required:
- Inpatient Experience Preferred.
