Summary

Baylor College of Medicine at Christus Children's Hospital is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. The APP will work under a delineation of clinical privileges and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team, including the attending physicians, resident physicians, and fellow physicians to provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the APP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. Job duties are performed in a manner that is appropriate for the ages of patients served. The APP is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.

Job Duties

  • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
  • Serve as first-call provider 5 nights per month (home call), in conjunction with attending surgeon
  • Perform reductions of displaced fractures in the emergency room when on call
  • Perform inpatient consultations
  • First assist in surgery
  • Run independent clinics at the hospital and satellite clinics
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
  • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
  • Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Required: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.
  • Experience Required: Background working with children with chronic illness, and knowledge of long-term medications and drug interactions (optional). Strong pediatric orthopedic experience.
  • Experience Required: Strong interest in Orthopedics and taking care of children.  New grads welcome. Experience always welcome.  Experience working in Epic a plus.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Current controlled substances certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
