Summary
The Laboratory Technician will play a key support role by assisting laboratory personnel with various research activities and experiments. Responsibilities include preparing reagents, performing mouse husbandry, extracting genomic DNA, and providing hands-on support for a variety of experimental procedures. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow protocols accurately, and a strong interest in laboratory science. The role is vital to ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and contributing to the success of ongoing research projects. This position will be part-time-6 hours a week.
Job Duties
- Prepares Reagents and Buffers. Accurately measures and mix chemical solutions according to established protocols.
- Labels and stores reagents properly to ensure availability for experiments.
- Assists in the daily care and monitors laboratory mice that includes feeding, cage cleaning, handling, and health checks, while maintaining proper records and adhering to animal care and ethical guidelines.
- Isolates genomic DNA from tissue or cell samples using standard molecular biology techniques, quantifies DNA, and prepares samples for downstream applications such as PCR or sequencing.
- Provides hands-on assistance to research staff with various experimental procedures that includes setting up assays, prepares sample plates, sterilizes equipment, and performs basic laboratory techniques under supervision.
- Ensures the lab is clean, organized, and well-stocked with supplies.
- Assists with autoclaving, waste disposal, and equipment maintenance to support an efficient and safe research environment.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Has full-time/part-time experience working in the biomedical research laboratory is a plus. (part time is ok).
