Summary

The Intern/Aide will support research activities within the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center as part of a paid summer internship program. This role provides hands-on exposure to pediatric hematology/oncology research while fostering professional development through structured learning experiences. The intern will gain foundational knowledge of research operations, including data handling, laboratory processes, and administrative support, while contributing to active research projects under supervision.

Job Purpose

Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.  

Job Duties

  • Assist with research database management and data organization
  • Support inventory management for research supplies and materials
  • Conduct chart reviews to extract and organize relevant research data
  • Aid in sample processing following established research protocols
  • Apply general laboratory, computer, and administrative skills to support ongoing research studies
  • Collaborate with research staff and supervisors to meet project objectives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current high school student, college undergraduate, or graduate student
  • Interest in pediatric hematology/oncology, medical research, or healthcare-related fields
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn database systems
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn general laboratory and research-related procedures
  • Ability to work effectively in a supervised, team-based environment
