The Center for Comparative Medicine provides for the care, health and well-being of all research animals used in the pursuit of scientific achievement and excellence at Baylor College of Medicine. CCM provides the highest quality veterinary and animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals.

Training Analyst I performs husbandry skills trainings, assessments and re-trainings as required. Provides training during new hire onboarding for CCM animal care staff. Provides AALAS classes at the ALAT level.

Job Duties

  • Utilizes previously developed curricula and materials in support of training objectives.
  • Participates in training facilitation via hands on instruction, technical demonstration in the vivarium, audio or video presentatons or group discussion.
  • Assists in evaluating training effectiveness and achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Organizes training materials and environments, including spaces, equipment, handouts, presentations, New Hire handbook or other visuals.
  • Assists in developing new courses or training initiatives.
  • Promotes AALAS certification and career development.
  • Monitors skills proficiency of the new hires during their 5-6 week orientation and shadowing period.
  • Measures skill proficiency and development during work plan period and recommends adjustments to expectations timeline.
  • Provides feedback to facility manager or direct supervisor of new hire proficiency and/or additional education or skills training needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of related experience may substitue for degree requirement.
  • Husbandry technician with ALAT or higher certification.
  • Minimum of 4 years of animal care, veterinarian technician or husbandry experience.


  • Candidates should have the ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with a wide variety/diverse range of people.
  • Posses strong communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and thorough. 
  • Excellent written skills.
