Job Purpose

Internal Title:  Research Coordinator II

External Title:  Tissue Banking Coordinator

Coordinates the day-to-day activities of Tissue Collection research protocol. Ensures accurate data collection, documentation, organization and safety of study volunteers. Provides responsible technical assistance in support of research projects by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of anatomy and cancer. Works under minimal supervision by a higher-level research staff member.

Job Duties
  • Interacts with patients in a hospital setting to obtain informed consent from patients.
  • Coordinates with pathology and surgical staff to collect tissue.
  • Labels vials and cassettes.
  • Electronically submits work requests to histology.
  • Processes tissue and blood specimens collected.
  • Freezes blood products and tissue samples.
  • Carefully records tissue bank specimens for regulatory compliance.
  • Stores and retrieves or paraffin tissue blocks and slides as needed for projects.
  • Assists in retrieval of clinical data as appropriate for various studies.
  • Maintains clean equipment and work area.
  • Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports.
Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.

One year of relevant experience.
