Title: Supervisor, Nursing
Summary
The Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is in search of a Nurse Supervisor who will supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the clinical support staff. Otolaryngology operates a highly patient-focused clinic where all staff members, in cooperation with care providers, devote their work day to making our patient's lives better. The Nurse Supervisor will work very closely with the Medical Director, Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, Department Chair, Administrator, and Senior Practice Manager to review KPI and budgetary data, as well as to improve clinical operations on an ongoing basis Along with department leadership, manage the OR utilization and efficiency of scheduling patients for surgery at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. Leads clinical staff recruitment efforts, establish and maintain effective precepting and departmental training guides for new hires.
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, and clinical staff as well as outside referral sources.
Job Duties
- Ensures Baylor College of Medicine's policies and procedures are followed.
- Promotes and encourages an environment that provides quality patient care, patient and staff safety.
- Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
- Supervises personnel objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning duties, scheduling, coaching, counseling and may discipline employees. Communicates updated policies and procedures and job expectations. May conduct annual performance appraisal and may make recommendations for staff clinical advancement.
- Ensures efficient operations of the clinic by scheduling and directing the daily activities of the clinic/nursing staff.
- Monitors facility and equipment condition and orders clinic supplies. Communicates and coordinates with the appropriate individuals for housekeeping activities and equipment repairs and/or maintenance.
- Serves as liaison to front desk staff/managers, as well as staff in patient resource center, performs service recovery as needed.
- Prioritizes and organizes work so that assignments are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
- Identifies and supports basic cost containment for patients and the clinic.
- Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Three years of relevant experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Certification in area of specialty for non-BSN incumbents.
