Summary

The David J. Sugarbaker Division of Thoracic Surgery in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is looking for a Supervisor for Clinical Research. Under the direction of the chief and faculty members of the division, this individual will coordinate day-to-day operations of clinical trials, health services research and scientific projects, with a particular focus on administration and finance aspects, such as assisting faculty developing scientific proposals, clinical trial protocols, developing and monitoring budgets, and coordinating a research team of six individuals. The ideal candidate will understand research operations and coordinate the efforts between faculty and the basic/translational and clinical research, grants and contracts, finance and regulatory teams in the Department of Surgery.

 

Under the direction of the division chief and faculty members of the division, coordinates day-to-day operations of clinical trials, health services research and scientific projects in the Division of Thoracic Surgery. Monitors progress of clinical trials, protocols, and scientific projects. Liaises with departmental basic/translational and clinical research, grants and contracts, finance and regulatory teams to develop and monitor budgets of clinical trials and grants and to ensure adherence to college policies and regulatory standards.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates day-to-day operations of clinical trials, health services research and scientific projects. 20%
  • Liaises with faculty and department basic/translational and clinical research, grants and contracts, finance and regulatory teams, as well as, external collaborators. 20%
  • Coordinates monthly presentations of research updates for the Thoracic Surgery Clinical Trials Meeting. 5%
  • Prepares and submits regulatory documentation for study initiation, continuation, and completion within the framework of required compliance.  10%
  • Coordinates Thoracic Oncology Working Group meetings in conjunction with administrative staff at Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.  10%
  • Ensures that PIs and research staff have appropriate research credentials such as RCR, RCOI, Human Subjects research and other certifications to maintain compliance.  5%
  • Looks for opportunities for growth in research portfolio. 10%
  • Liaises with industry partners on the consideration, development, and management of research projects.  10%
  • Assists faculty developing and maintaining grants and contracts. 10%

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree OR Master's degree in Public Health, MBA or Ph.D.
  • Significant experience in research administration.
  • Experience with budget management of pre/post submission awards.
  • Able to maintain and foster a collaborative environment between all members of the research team.
