Title: Supervisor, Accounting
Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Research Administration, the Supervisor of Accounting is a critical team member ensuring that the overarching infrastructure (people, process, and technology) meets the needs and requirements for a fully functioning and compliant Sponsored Programs Finance enterprise. Supervises the day-to-day accounting functions of the College by supervising accounting personnel and financial activities in the performance of complex tasks. Responsible for the financial integrity of the general ledger.
This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area.
Job Duties
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of the financial accounting system to ensure the integrity of financial information based on sound accounting procedures and controls.
- Responsible for the financial transactions flowing to the general ledger.
- Analyzes transactions at both a detail level and an overall summary level to decipher if balances and transactions are reasonable.
- Oversees the function of commitment accounting relating to labor and fringe encumbrances.
- Supervises and assists with the accounting close and journalizing adjusting entries at the end of the fiscal periods monthly and annually.
- Prepares and/or reviews/approves account reconciliations and journal accounting entries prepared by assigned areas.
- Assists with the coordination and execution of activities relating to general accounting internal and external audits.
- Supervises assigned staff and performs or coordinates all related activities, including employee appraisals, recommendations for promotions, disciplinary actions, etc.
- Coordinates, monitors, and updates general financial training for the college community in the assigned areas.
- Works with regulatory staff, investigators, and other stakeholders to resolve queries from regulatory agencies and other involved parties.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- SAP, especially SAP S4.
- Experience in Excel and SharePoint.
- Research finance experience.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
