This program is designed to provide undergraduate or graduate (Master or Doctorate) students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced field of clinical ethics. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to shadow clinical ethics consultants at two hospital-based, clinical ethics consultation services, participate in research, and gain exposure to one of the preeminent bioethics centers in the country.


Program Information: 

  • The Bioethics Summer Internship is open to undergraduate and graduate (Master or Doctorate) students in degree granting programs
  • The internship will be held in early May - July 1, 2022
  • Internships are in-person and include hospital-based rotations at Texas Medical Center-based hospitals in Houston, Texas
  • The internship is paid with a commitment of up to 20 hours per week 

Job Duties

The Clinical Ethics Summer Internship has the following components:

  • Up to 4-weeks of shadowing experienced Clinical Ethicists during consultations
  • Opportunities to join Ethics Committee meetings at each hospital-partner as well as the Texas Ethics Consortium
  • Intellectual events such as Case Conferences and Grand Rounds
  • Bi-weekly discussion groups led by rotating faculty members 
  • Support relevant Clinical Ethics research including literature search and data analysis

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Experience Required: None Required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate (Master or Doctorate) students in a related field. 
  • Demonstrated interest in a career in bioethics or clinical ethics. 
  • Commitment of up to 20 hours per week.
