The lab focuses on how carotenoids, a class of colorful compounds in fruits and vegetables, are absorbed and metabolized to promote maternal and child health. Of particular interest is the use of optical quantitation of skin carotenoids as a marker of infant fruit and vegetable intake.

Job Purpose

Job tasks will include cleaning and maintaining lab equipment and supplies, preparing for and participating in human subject recruitment events, distributing recruitment flyers to community locations, preparing for and participating in human subject visits, processing human biologic samples, reviewing dietary intake data, and entering experimental data.   • Recruiting research volunteers
  • Distributing flyers
  • Entering data
  • Preparing for and taking down after research study visits
  • Maintaining lab inventory
  • Washing and maintaining equipment and supplies
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).

Experience: None required.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related basic or applied science: chemistry, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, nutrition, kinesiology, health sciences.
  • Past experience working with children and/or families
  • If in second year of Bachelor's degree or beyond, demonstrated academic success and understanding of scientific coursework.


Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills, and will be self-motivated, reliable, efficient, methodical, and show an attention to detail.
