This individual will serve the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), and its research mission at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH). A Student Helper I is needed to join a basic science/translational research lab based in the Texas Children's Microbiome Center at TCH. Laboratory studies are focused on understanding mechanisms of GI disease prevention in children. This person will participate in funded research projects relating to microbiome-neuroimmune signaling and will assist the department with computational analysis of data. 

Job Purpose

This individual will conduct data analysis requiring high‐level skills and expertise in computational science. This individual will work with senior team members to develop and optimize new computational algorithms for the laboratory, analyze data, compile literature searches, and report results and summaries to faculty members.

Job Duties

This individual's duties will be heavily weighted in computational methods, including (but not limited to): data analysis in R package and basic programming skills. This individual is expected to work independently while balancing a variety of ongoing projects, deadlines, and data analysis management. In addition to adhering to the policies set forth by TCH and BCM, the person must understand and act on the need for discretion due to the sensitive nature of research involved. This person will report to Tor Savidge, Ph.D., and will be based in the Feigin Tower of TCH. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).

Experience: None required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred: A strong background in computational science is highly desirable.
