Summary
We are seeking a skilled Stationary Engineer, Third Grade to support the safe and efficient operations of our Central Plant. This role is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining essential stationary equipment, including steam boilers, air compressors, generators, turbines, and refrigeration systems that keep our facility running smoothly. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Johnson Controls and Siemens building automation systems, ensuring all building systems perform at peak efficiency. This position also plays a critical role in maintaining precise climate control in sensitive areas—such as animal holding rooms, server/data centers, and research environments—where temperature and humidity must remain within strict tolerances at all times. We are looking for a dependable, safety‑minded professional with strong troubleshooting abilities and a commitment to maintaining reliable, uninterrupted facility operations.
Current shift available is the evening shift 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and occasional 7a.m. to 7 p.m. Must be willing to work any shift and be available during shutdowns and on call on weekends and holidays.
Job Duties
- Ensures that the steam boilers are running at peak efficiencies which include maintenance tear downs of each boiler annually.
- Ensures that the Chilled Water Refrigeration System is running at peak efficiency.
- Conducts routine rounds of the Central Plant and associated buildings to inspect auxiliary pumps and equipment.
- Monitors the Pan Alarm System which monitors research units such as freezers, cold and warm rooms, and refrigerators to ensure that the proper personnel are notified in case of an activated alarm.
- Performs chemical analysis of Steam, Chilled Water, and Cooling Tower Systems each shift. Maintains Central Plant and ensures that it is neat and clean.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies at Baylor.
- Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
- Performs inspection of equipment to detect routine malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
- Reports to supervisors any developments that appear to lead to an unsafe operating condition.
- Performs Preventive Maintenance on various equipment to ensure peak efficiencies.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- One year of relevant experience.
- Licensed Third Grade Stationary Engineer from the City of Houston.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
