Job Title:  Staff Scientist
Division:  Radiology

Salary Range:  $62,000 - $64,356
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Staff Scientist will conduct both independent and directed laboratory or computational studies directed by a PI. The Staff Scientist will report results in group meetings and project meetings, write first drafts of reports, manuscripts, invention disclosures, and abstracts for scientific meetings, based on results generated. Will participate in revisions of these documents under the guidance of a PI and submissions of documents as directed.

 

Must be capable of independent work in their domain as well as be an excellent team player who will work well with a team of similarly qualified scientists. The Staff Scientist must accept accountability for their actions/results. Must have excellent problem solving and analytical skills in their domain.

Job Duties

Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator:

  • Conduct both independent and directed/supervised/mentored laboratory and/or computational studies.
  • Conduct literature searches and stay current with the literature in the field of study.
  • Independent research will be on projects initiated by the Staff Scientist, and approved by a PI with funding support for the project, usually the Director of the group.
  • Present work in project meetings and group meetings, periodically.
  • Write first drafts of manuscripts, invention disclosures, reports, and scientific meeting abstracts based on their work, both individual and collaborative; refine these documents based on review cycles, with the PI.
  • Prepare slide presentations for meetings where their abstracts are accepted, and if selected, present their work at these meetings.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and shareable work area in the lab.
  • Maintain all chemicals, reagents and supplies for their work and shared materials for the entire group at appropriate inventory levels.
  • Ensure that shared equipment is always left clean after use. 
  • Participate in weekly group meetings and weekly laboratory cleanups.
  • Support trainees and interns with their work by providing expert guidance. 
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences 
  • Experience with mouse brain tissue processing
  • Experience working with laboratory animals
  • Flow cytometry experience
