Summary

The Genomic and RNA Profiling (GARP) Core facility is a shared resource and DNA sequencing service provider at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas. The mission of the GARP Core is to provide the most cutting-edge NGS technologies to investigators in and outside of Baylor College of Medicine. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist with expertise in Next-Generation Sequencing. The Staff Scientist will contribute to both lab work and administrative tasks as required for the efficient operation of the core facility.

Job Duties

  • Conduct benchwork (e.g. library construction, sequencer operation) towards completion of service requests and development of new workflows. 
  • Coordinate projects as needed to ensure fast and accurate core function.
  • Oversee day-to-day work activities of the lab.
  • Train junior members of the lab.
  • Responsible for overseeing data quality requirements and timeliness of project completion.
  • Report out results and data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure an effective work environment.
  • Responsible for administrative tasks as required such as invoicing, customer support, data management, and marketing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in relevant discipline (Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry).
  • Strong scientific background in genomics, transcriptomics and/or epigenetics.
  • Strong hands-on laboratory experience and in-depth knowledge of NGS technologies and applications.
  • Experience with library preparation methods including RNA-seq and in genomic profiling techniques such as ChIP-seq, CUT&RUN, ATAC-seq and RNA-seq.
  • Experienced in the analysis and interpretation of NGS data. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work and independently manage multiple, diverse, and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to perform highly complex experiments and techniques with high levels of reliability. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
