The Aiden and Nir labs (UTMB) collaborate to study 3D genome organization and how its modulation can influence cell fate, are looking to hire a research scientist to oversee operations in our new Southeast Texas chromosome tracing core.  The Aiden lab is part of the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. The Nir lab is a member of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UTMB, Galveston.  The Staff Scientist will travel between the two labs during each month, not typically on a daily basis.

Job Duties

  • Designing chromosome tracing projects
  • Maintaining the microscopes with their integrated fluidics units (mostly commercial microscopes)
  • Conducting Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) experiments, performing in vitro amplification (PCR, T7 amplification, RT, gel electrophoresis, etc.)
  • Training students to use the microscopes, the fluidics, and the in vitro amplification
  • Assisting with writing grants and protocols, and lab management tasks
  • Other duties may include administrative work, such as writing grants, protocols, and ordering reagents

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computational skills and programming (Matlab, python, etc.) are a plus but not necessary
  • Some experience with super resolution microscopy
  • Ph. D. in a relevant field (e.g., biophysics, molecular genetics, biochemistry, etc.)
