The Senior Staff Scientist will work on a project exploring how the human microbiome impacts brain development and function.  Will be involved with studying how mice respond to different human microbiomes in terms of behavior, learning and memory. Previous work with mouse models and the ability to handle animals is required. The position also provides the opportunity to engineer human bacteria via synthetic biology to sense different “states” of the microbiome that contribute to brain development.

Job Duties

  • Assists with running experiments with mice involving both behavior and learning.
  • Performs molecular biology experiments to characterize the animals and microbiomes as warranted by the project.
  • Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Seven years of postdoctoral  research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience working with mouse models.
  • Must be comfortable handling mice as this is critical for adapting the mice to be ready for behavior and cognitive function experiments.
