Summary

A full-time Senior Research Assistant position is available immediately in the Kaochar Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine. We are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic, highly self-motivated, highly responsible, dedicated to science and problem solving, with excellent organizational skills and effective at working independently, while also collaborating and assisting the team in its collective research goals. Excellent attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects is expected. The position requires the candidate to have strong communication and written skills in English.

Job Duties

  • Perform routine tissue culture duties such as general cell culture maintenance, cell line construction, and verification.
  • Build and maintain syngeneic, xenograft, PDX and orthotopic mouse cancer models
  • Perform mouse in vivo animal procedures, including dosing animals by various routes (e.g. intravenous, intraperitoneal, etc), and measuring tumors by calipers
  • Mouse necropsy and tissue collection
  • Contribute to overall vivarium organization and IACUC protocol
  • Project-oriented work using molecular and cellular biology techniques including but not limited to DNA preparation, PCR, drug/compound screening, basic cell culture maintenance, etc. 
  • Collect, evaluate, and interpret research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases. Maintain electronic records. 
  • Prior experience with animal procedures is required.
  • Ensure compliance with Baylor College of Medicine policies and SOPs, local and other applicable regulatory requirements and best practice guidelines.
  • The position requires a highly self-motivated individual, with outstanding organizational skills, the ability to effectively present results and conclusions to co-workers, collaborators and manager. Ability to work well under pressure and drive personal and team objectives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. 
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Five or more years in a biology research lab
  • Experience with biology of cancer
