Summary

The Senior Research Administration Associate within the Sponsored Programs Finance Department supports the day to day account reconciliations, billing, financial analysis, journal entries, invoicing, and reporting of external and internal sponsor accounts. This role will provide administrative and regulatory guidance to the Baylor College of Medicine faculty, administrators, and staff on the uses and reporting requirements from federal, state and private awarding agencies including, but not limited to the National Institute of Science (NIH), and the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).


 

Job Duties

  • Recommend improvement to and changes in operations to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Maintain financial reporting schedules and ensure the timely reporting of all financial information.
  • Perform final reconciliation and close out of expired accounts.
  • Provide grant program expertise, financial expertise, and guidance related to sponsored research to leaders and faculty.
  • Contribute and lead the development and continuous improvement of the post award grants management process.
  • Review and analyze spreadsheets to submit invoices and financial reports to sponsors.
  • Make recommendations for process revisions and lead implementation of changes as appropriate.
  • Prepare journal entries for grant quarterly/biannual/annual reporting purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with all guidelines.
  • Serve as grants liaison between faculty, Baylor College of Medicine, national and international institutions, and/or federal/private funding agencies.
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.  Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment effectively in decision-making process.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field or MBA.
  • Will consider Master's degree and two years' experience with post award grant management.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or equivalent is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in an academic research setting.
  • Ability to understand and manage the complexities of research grants cost principles. 
  • Strong attention to detail and data quality.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Good customer service skills with faculty and key personnel.
  • Demonstrate collaborative teamwork abilities.
