Job Purpose

Conducts activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of Baylor College of Medicine’s HIPAA Privacy Program in accordance with Federal and Texas law.

Job Duties
  • Assists in the identification, development, update and implementation of The College’s HIPAA privacy policies and procedures in coordination with Executive Compliance Director and Privacy Officer to meet Federal and Texas privacy laws/regulations.
  • Develops, implements and oversees monitoring and auditing activities conducted by compliance staff to ensure compliance with BCM policies and legal requirements for privacy of patient information. 
  • Develop and delivers privacy education, including in-person and computer based education. 
  • Tracks and reports on HIPAA privacy activities.
  • Track, investigate and report on HIPAA privacy concerns/complaints in collaboration with the Executive Compliance Director and Privacy Officer to address and resolve the complaint.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate efforts across the College and with Baylor College of Medicine’s affiliate organizations where our employees and learners maintain privacy and security of information.
  • Reviews, approves and monitors all business associate agreements and data use agreements.
  • Assists in initial and periodic risk assessments based on internal and external HIPAA privacy activities. 
  • Assists in responding  to HIPAA privacy questions and provides guidance to the College’s work force members
  • Works collaboratively with the College’s Information Security Officer as necessary to ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy standards.
  • Assists in reporting HIPAA privacy breaches and responding to inquiries and requests for information from the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree.
  • Required: Four years of relevant experience.
