Summary

The Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM) provides for the care, health and well-being of all research animals used in the pursuit of scientific achievement and excellence at Baylor College of Medicine. CCM provides the highest quality veterinary and animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals.


The Senior Accountant position will play a key role in the day to day financial and business operations of a fast paced, busy research division department. This position functions as a financial lead in the CCM business office.  The person in this role will contribute significantly to process development and improvement to ensure business goals are met.  It is expected that the person in this position would have had adequate professional experience to understand and support a successful business operation. The selected candidate will be capable of contributing towards process improvement and guiding team members towards best practices. The candidate should be able to work mostly independently to produce high quality work as well as be able to oversee team members to ensure accuracy and time lines are met. The person in this position should contribute towards and ensure a highly professional work environment.

Job Duties

  • Perform and oversee the daily operation of a department primarily in the areas of financial management.
  • Adhere to and support best business practices. Develop processes and guidelines for team members.
  • Perform and oversee monthly invoicing processes to ensure steady and accurate revenue stream.
  • Develop successful strategies for expense control.
  • Review and approve financial entries and transactions.
  • Assist in developing and managing budget and financial data. Monitor, control and verify expenditures. Be able to conduct financial analyses and generate analytical reports.
  • Assist in overseeing post-award related projects and related tasks.
  • Play key role in business office related SOPs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field.  
  • Master's degree in related field will be an asset.
  • Experience working with SAP a plus.
  • Prior work experience in an academic/research setting. 
  • Experience in client billing/accounts receivable/accounts payable.
  • Advanced skill level of MS Excel.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
