The Trauma and Grief (TAG) Center at Texas Children's Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine seeks to fill a Bilingual Senior Medical Social Worker at main campus.

Job Duties
  • Implement evidence-based assessment and trauma-informed interventions for traumatized and/or bereaved youth, ages 7 to 17, including youth who may have a history of other traumas such as exposure to Hurricane Harvey.

  • Train and disseminate these practices nationally as part of a series of trainings hosted by our TAG Center, a Category II Treatment and Service Adaptation Center of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.

  • Close collaboration with treatment developers to support monitoring of fidelity to treatment and refinement of interventions to ensure cultural attunement.

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team of social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and pediatricians.
  • Interviews clients and relatives to obtain social history relevant to medical problems and history.
  • Assesses each client during initial contact.
  • Documents progress after client visits.
  • Answers client calls and assesses need for services.
  • Plans a course of treatment or refers clients to appropriate agencies and physicians.
  • Conducts independent psychotherapies to assist patients in achieving positive psychological or social adjustments.
  • Serves as a liaison between medical and nursing staff, clients, relatives and appropriate outside agencies.
  • Arranges transportation for clients to physicians’ appointments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Required: Master's degree in Social Work from a school approved by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • Required: One year of relevant experience.
  • Required: Licensure as a Master Social Worker (LMSW) by The Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (TSBSWE).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical practice concentration and field practicum or recent work experience in health care agency or hospital, outpatient clinic, or other clinical practice setting.
  • Must have some experience working with traumatized and/or bereaved youth.
