Baylor College of Medicine is searching for motivated individuals to be part of a large multi-year business process and technology transformation to modernize the important work we do. Our team will be one of the first in our industry to move to the latest in SAP technologies, pioneering solutions to advance our missions of Healthcare, Research, and Education.


We are looking for a leader responsible for designing and delivering our future state technical SAP platform, while supporting and migrating the existing platform to the new solution. This role will oversee all technical aspects of our SAP platform with a focus on best practice, consistent delivery and effectiveness, building strategic relationships inside and outside of the organization, influencing leaders as well as vendor partners, and supporting team development and growth.

This position will be remote with onsite time being occasionally required for team events and in-person meetings. Preference for Houston-based candidates.


The internal title is Senior Manager, Business Applications; the working title is Senior Manager, SAP Technology Lead.

Job Duties

  • Lead the team in the architectural design, installation and configuration of all future SAP systems – S/4HANA, GRC, Solman, BW4HANA, Fiori, etc.
  • Evaluate and select hosting service providers with the goal of aggressively moving to a secure cloud-hosted platform to optimize utilization and create a fit-for-purpose platform to effectively run BCM's business operations.
  • Manage and supervise Basis administrators. Analyze resource needs and skill sets for the technical roadmap and develop plans to ensure the team has the ability and skills to support projects and activities.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of the team, including after-hours support. Ensure reliable and secure 24x7 functioning of SAP and related systems for use across the enterprise.
  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust backup and disaster recovery strategy for SAP in accordance with leading practices.
  • Serve as the internal escalation point/referral point for technical issues and problems with the SAP landscape.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to manage the SAP infrastructure.
  • Utilize deep SAP technical expertise to guide project planning, prioritization, troubleshooting and resolution of complex SAP technical issues.
  • Maintain design documents and ensure alignment with Infrastructure, Network, Security and other meaningful groups.
  • Drive effective decision making within the team, including communication of decisions to appropriate partners and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Supervise and talent development by mentoring, coaching for success, establishing performance expectations, and providing recognition.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other related area
  • 5+ years experience in SAP Basis technical administration and leadership designing, implementing and maintaining SAP Basis infrastructure (S4/HANA, BW4HANA, BPC, PI/PO, GRC, etc.)
  • 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
  • Ability to gather requirements, document scope and present solutions to leadership and stakeholders
  • Architect modifications and enhancements to existing SAP Basis platform to support business needs
  • Utilize advanced SAP administration and troubleshooting techniques to complete complex assignments or to solve difficult problems
  • Good understanding of the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) process framework in order to ensure that business/project teams can obtain services efficiently
  • Good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
